4th of July casual set

4th of July for Fireworks

A sea of blue, red and white

I'm very excited for the 4th of July weekend coming up. I just love the collective patriotism and the beautiful fireworks in the night sky - always brings tears to my eyes! It really is touching how we all love our country so deeply! So this year I'm going to tackle the ever-present dilemma on July 4th - how to wear Red, White and Blue - just like everyone else and their mother - and stand out among the crowd. I've got two examples that I created with Polyvore that show a casual and a somewhat dressed up look. I'm thinking both these looks are good for a family picnic and fireworks afterwards.

If I had a boat

Today's outfit is brought to you by - my shoes! It's gotta start somewhere right? Lets start at the bottom and work up - shall we? These are my new Havaianas red flip flops! Yay! They are super comfy - and not just like regular flip flops - they got some sort of magical cushion in them ladies. And they aren't big and bulky like most squishy flip flops are, which is nice because I don't like to be too far off the ground. Ya know... fear of heights and all.
This outfit was easy peasy (yeah it's a word... shush.) I absolutely adore red and therefore have lots of jewelry to match - and this lovely top I swear I've had forever - I love shirts like this that are in style forever - simple, classic, clean and wear great!
I'm gonna rock these flippy flops as much as I can so get used to em - they are so comfy I don't wanna leave them lonely too much- so let the obsession of matching red with anything and everything commence!

The same, only different

I swear this whole outfit is based on the earrings. Its funny where you get your inspiration from sometimes. These gorgeous earrings are shells that have been dyed to fade from blue to turquoise - just stunning with gold trim.

So I'm obviously loving this turquoise, black & white combo. Here's an adaptation from my own closet presently - although I wish I could buy that set I made the other day - adorable! This black top is great because it's vertical stripes - therefore its very slimming! And I love these white jeans-  they are soo comfy and I love the contrast it creates!

Yeah, I'm diggin the wayfarer's - but they always remind me of Tom Cruise in Risky Business - tighty whities and all... haha!

Good as gold - or better!

This is my version of the bun it up and wear a printed summer dress. I wore some yellow gold necklaces and hoop earrings with it. I'm not usually a gold girl but I really loved the look with tan skin. So if you are tan - you lucky dog, you - wear some gold and you'll look even darker! I always wondered why ladies were drenched in gold necklaces... I finally get it.

SO... have I inspired you to bun it up and wear a printed dress yet? This combo was PERFECT for a night out on the town. I didn't have to worry about my hair - even in the rain - yessssss! So ladies - take it from me - bun it up and you will feel fantastic!

Gold necklace from Elite Repeats $30 (for all three!)
Animal print dress from Gabriel Brothers $10
Steve Madden Sandals $25

The new & the old

This vest is Lane Bryant and I love it. I've had it for a couple years but don't wear it that often so it still has the remaining excitement from when I purchased it. It's so business looking and I don't rock that look often. But today I think I found a way to wear it without looking to stuffy - a denim skirt! And these espadrilles - they are actually Wal-Mart from my ramen noodle and pb&j broke college days - but they are still super cute! I brought it all together with this necklace from my grandmother - I love wearing vintage jewelry especially when it's been worn by my grandmother! She would love it! Do you ever remix your mother or grandmothers jewelry?
